Task 17: Shortlist

I thought a great deal about the type of film opening i would like to make, as its a vital part of the coursework. I have shortlisted the following ideas.

1. Horror

  • I picked this because this type of opening doesn't involve a lot of acting and mainly focuses on the camera work.
  • I believe this genre offers a lot of creative control, as there are varies types of sequences made for horror movies. Some use omens others use horror classics and stereotypes.
  •  I also liked this genre because its easy to recreate some of the locations and all the pros are easily available, especially at this time as its halloween.
The two title sequences are both horror but the directors took very different approach to the two. The Shinning is peaceful and full of dark omens, whilst Are You Afraid Of The Dark is more sinister and gets your heart racing.

2. Thriller
  • I picked Thriller because its easy to recreate with the right editing, lighting and music.
  • The plot doesn't need a lot of thought put into it as thrillers usually have straightforward conventions.
  • The setting is usually in large cities, and i could get nice locations around London to indicate that it's a thriller.
