Task 15: Why is sound so important in a film?

SOUND - What you hear
SOUND SCAPE - All of the sound that you can hear
SOUND DESIGN - The process of creating and manipulating audio.
SUSPENDING DISBELIEF - Creating realistic sound so the audience can almost believe that it is real.

George Lucas, the director of the Star Wars franchise, argues that sound is "50%" of a film.Therefore: it is very important.

To see if this is true, we watched the title sequence for "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" twice.Once without sound and once with sound.

Here is what we found out:

The difference between watching a title sequence with and without sound was startling. I now realise how sound is extremely important to film. Without sound, it is hard to identify the genre of the film, it's hard to set the tone, and you are also not as engaged as you can be when there is sound.
