I got 23 responses to my survey after sharing it on Facebook and emailing my family the link. I then proceeded to analyse my findings. I got some mixed responses, from varies audience groups.
Q1. which 3 Genres do audiences prefer?
1) Comedy (7 votes/ 30%)
2) Action/Adventure (6 votes/26%)
3) Horror (4 votes/18%)
Q2. what reasons did they give for their preferences?
- Comedies: People said they were lighthearted, and didn't require a lot of attention. People could relax earn watching a comedy and overall have a good time. People said that comedies are funny and put you in a better mood. comedies make people happy. Uplifting
- Action/Adventure: People enjoy this genre because its interesting, gripping and entertaining. Interesting new locations.
- Horror: People liked this type of film because it gave them a thrill and got their hearts racing. People like getting scared because it shows you that normal life isn't as scary as it could be.
Q3. Do similar audience groups like the same film genres?
No, i found out that males tend to prefer more thrillers, action and horror movies. Whilst females mainly just enjoyed comedies and adventure films. The younger audience (under 15) preferred mainly comedies. And only the older audience liked more complex movies such as science-fiction. the majority of my audience was under 30, so non of them enjoyed documentaries or romantics films, as those target audience is older.
Q4. Which film genre do you think you would prefer to make and who will be your target audience?
I would like to do horror because it was popular with the people, its exciting to both watch and to film. Even though comedy was the most popular, It's hard to make good and funny title sequence for it. And i don't have the actors that could feature in an action title sequence. My target audience for horror would predominantly be people aged 15-25. I got equal responses from both genders so i would have a broad target audience.
